Horses in the Field
At The Anam Cara, the animals set the pace, especially the horses. Being prey animals and therefore hypersensitive, activities such as filming around them tends to alter their relaxed natural state. Here though, it’s a different story as the horses take us on a field trip where they forget that they are filmed!

Horses in Motion
Horses have always been linked to the origins of motion pictures. It is no coincidence if my website is called GallopingBolex. As a matter of fact, the first sequence of images to be captured and projected where that of a galloping horse called Sallie.
It all started with the desire to figure out if there was a moment where the horse had all it’s hooves off the ground during it’s galloping motion. To accomplish this, the photographer Eadweard Muybridge laid a few cameras side by side with a system of tripwires to trigger them as horse ran past them. The result was a satisfying yes, and the images were first exhibited in motion in 1880.
