The 2024 Saab Owners Convention was the 41st gathering of Saab lovers and owners held in the beautiful city of Portland, Oregon.

For most, the brand Saab is uninteresting at best. For others it is the most loveable car brand to have ever existed, and it’s disappearance will never be replaced. I am part of that second category. The other car brands are just too serious… too big… to corporate. When Saab sold to the big corporation (General Motors), their eccentricity quickly faded and even the brand lovers preferred holding on to their older machines than buying mass produced cars with shared platforms.

What is undeniable though, is the amount of innovations the little manufacturer from Sweden brought to the automotive world. Most of these were linked to safety but also efficiency and driving engagement. I think the brand represents way more than a just car. It represents “thinking outside the box” hence the reason why this car appealed to a very specific slice of the population.
The community of Saab lovers is incredibly loving and welcoming. There is obviously a pride of keeping something alive that keeps the fire going… just like shooters of 16mm film!
