A Journey on Earth

Islands and archipelagos are fantastic places, and the Magdalen Islands are no exception! There, the soul escapes the reasoning mind to get carried away by the elements of nature. The Bolex documented our voyage imbued by the energy of these little islands.

Windsports

The Magdalen Islands have some of the best most consistent conditions for windsurfing, kitesurfing, wing foiling and many more wind propelled activities. The wind season usually starts mid-summer all the way to the end of fall, or until you decide the water is too cold!

The long dunes that make up the landscape have created lagoons, famous for providing ideal flat water surfaces by keeping the ocean waves away. Hop on the other side of the dunes, and the waves create another type of playground, often sought after by the surfers with more advanced levels.

Film Burns

Film Burns are these distinctively flashy yellow/reddish images that I often use as transition pieces. To achieve this, the film must be exposed to “too much light”, in this case the sun. A great way of obtaining this effect is to open the side door of the camera by which the film is initially loaded.

Filming windsports is challenging as the subjects are generally far out in the water and moving quickly. Occasionally they come closer for a Jibe or a Tack before leaving again for an unknown destination in the distance.
