Svenska Aeroplan

Svenska Aeroplan or Swedish Airplane will fly you back to 2020, when the world slowed down to an unusual rhythm. The first steps of motion after the shock where like those after the earthquake… fragile, uncertain, dreamy… like the vibes of an airport nearby Montréal.

Super-Impositions

The concept is easy to understand: film, rewind, than film again. This way, more than one image will be captured on the film creating an overlapping effect. In practice though it is a little harder as the amount of light reaching the film has to be controlled precisely to allow for two prints. The end result is generally surprising as it is hard to visually anticipate what will come out of it!

The Classic Saab 900, 1992

Svenska Aeroplan AktieBolaget, is the Swedish name for the acronym Saab, or in English: Swedish Airplane Inc. The company started making cars after WWII when the demand for producing military aircraft was declining. The result was an innovative car brand with an engineering background that influenced the automotive world. Superimposing images of an iconic Saab with airplanes was a way to pay tribute to the brand’s progressiste vision.

The similitudes between Paillard Bolex and Saab are numerous. They both excelled at producing long lasting objects ahead of their time and yet both have been replaced by more consumable products, adapted to a new world where change for better or worse is all that matters.
